CHC Update- Commissioners commit!

A step in the right direction
The county commissioners this week formally requested the county planning commission, to recommend changes to the county zoning ordinance that governs the Special Recreation and Conservation Zones.
This is good news, as it is the next step the county needs to make to rewrite a zoning ordinance. They’ve also given the planning commission a deadline of October 12.
CHC is working with PennFuture to present our recommendation.
CHC and the Indiana County Natural Gas Task Force
I attended the second Indiana Natural Gas Task Force meeting on Thursday representing the Coalition for a Healthy County. Craig Neal from CNX (Consul Energy) was the keynote speaker, who’s presentation focused on their horizontal wells drilled around Beaver Run Reservoir (ariel photo available here).  The reservoir supplies drinking water to over 100,000 people in West Mooreland County.  He described their operation as a mobile industrial complex, it moves from site to site around the reservoir.  There were a number of questions, many which drew parallels with driling at Yellow Creek.  For my full report, see below.
