CHC Update – More Cowbell?

Greetings all!

Today we have an update on the Planning Commission’s process to protect the conservation zones from fracking, and a question for you.
But first, do you want to help prevent pollution from Marcellus shale development?  Have you RSVP’d to the Visual Assessment Training happening on Monday, October 17, 6-9pm @ the Hub Monongehala room?  It’s not too late!  RSVP by just responding to this email, or on Facebook:
Planning Commission update:
On Wednesday last week the planning commission requested more time to decide on recommendations to protect the conservation zone. They’ll deliver the final recs to the County Commissioners by the second week in November, and the commissioners will have a final decision by January. It’s not at all clear that they’re going to recommend our amendment to move all aspects of gas drilling to the prohibited list. Their final recommendations will be available to the public for review and comment.
In the meantime, the County Commissioners have requested a voluntary moratorium on all applications to drill in the conservation zone.  No kidding!!   This “Gentleman’s Moratorium” has no legal authority – but it seems that at least the two companies that have planned to drill in the conservation zone, MDS and EQT,  are going to respect it.
What do you think CHC should do to convince the commissioners that hundreds of county residents support our ordinance? Email me and let me know what you think!
