The League of Women Voters has among the most comprehensive study on the issues surrounding all of the issues regarding hydro-fracking the Marcellus Shale. Their study guide is a good place to start for anyone interested in understanding fracking.

Fractracker is an interactive website which provides geographic information on a whole host of information regarding fracking permits, violations, drill pads, and more. Users are able to upload their own data sets as well. is an information clearing house about Marcellus Shale gas drilling and activism and related issues. Although this website’s primary geographic focus is Western Pennsylvania, also includes content pertaining to the fives states in which the Marcellus Shale is located – as well as other Shale gas formations across the U.S.
